OUTDOOR FESTIVAL
For a summer festival put on by the Arts Council of Rhode Island, I was asked to develop and expand their marketing materials. The original one-page map (see images below) of Burnside Park in downtown Providence, Rhode Island, was re-engineered into a two-sided, day-long event companion. This booklet was passed out at the festival and included a user-friendly map, schedule, and talent information.

3-DAY CONFERENCE
Visitors to a city for a professional event can feel left out and in the lurch when they are unable to get a sense of their surroundings. Despite the technological capabilities of GPS and reviews on Yelp, it can be hard to get a sense of place in a new location. I devised a program that provided attendees a tool for decision-making while navigating the city, as well as the conference schedule and event options.
TAKE-A-WAYS
-
Hand-held information, if done
well, becomes shareable as well as
a keep-sake. -
Hidden details and anecdotes lead
to discovery. -
Images "speak out" as a communication-tool to activate participation.
-
Sense of orientation is a powerful component to effectively communicating information in a large physical space.
